Vancouver General Hospital Eye Care Centre

Located within the Vancouver General Hospital precinct, the VGH Eye Care Centre is a leading Canadian facility dedicated to advancing research, treatment, and education in vision science. The centre houses both clinical and research functions, including the Centre for Macular Research, a national leader in the study of age-related macular degeneration.
Kitspace was engaged to deliver the interior systems and specialized laboratory casework for the facility’s expansion and modernization. Working closely with the UBC Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences and Vancouver Coastal Health, Kitspace implemented an integrated fit-out solution combining clinical durability, ergonomic design, and research adaptability.
The installation included modular stainless-steel casework, back-painted glass teaching walls, and flexible lab infrastructure designed to support interdisciplinary collaboration. The layout promotes seamless movement between clinical, teaching, and research areas, allowing ophthalmologists and scientists to share tools, data, and discoveries in real time.
Today, the Eye Care Centre continues to serve as a vital hub for Canadian ophthalmology — hosting cutting-edge work in gene therapy, immunology, and stem-cell research. The enduring performance of Kitspace’s systems has allowed the facility to evolve without interruption, proving the long-term value of precision-manufactured, reconfigurable interior environments in healthcare.
