Unveiled at the 2013 Interior Design Show West (IDS West) in Vancouver, the H&L Laneway Home showcased how thoughtful design, craftsmanship, and technology can elevate compact living.

Designed by Gaile Guevara (Modern604) and Creative Shift Studio, and built by Alair Homes, the 516-square-foot dwelling was conceived as both a design statement and a charitable project — with proceeds from its auction donated to the Alzheimer Society of British Columbia.

Behind the scenes, Kitspace led the complete architectural and technical coordination of the build — designing the structure, managing procurement, and overseeing assembly both at the exhibition site and later during its permanent installation in Paradise Valley, Squamish. The home’s construction pushed the limits of prefabrication at the time, featuring a Minimal kitchen system, Bocci lighting, Vario smart glass, and fully integrated lighting and audio automation.

Every inch of the home was engineered for efficiency, using high-end finishes and flexible layout solutions to make a small footprint feel expansive and livable. The result was a showcase of precision-built small-space design — proving that innovation, collaboration, and purpose can coexist beautifully under one roof.
