Richmond Animal Hospital

In 2015, Kitspace was approached with an unconventional design challenge: reimagine a veterinary surgical workspace to maximize efficiency, capacity, and care quality during specialist-led procedures.
The owner of Richmond Animal Hospital envisioned a surgical suite where multiple animal patients could be treated in parallel — a setting optimized for visiting surgeons and trauma teams. To make this possible, Kitspace developed a universal stainless-steel treatment station capable of supporting both trauma and dental procedures, and accommodating even the largest breeds of dogs — over 100 lbs.
Each station featured electronically height-adjustable wet benches designed for precision, hygiene, and ergonomic efficiency. The system allowed sedated animals to be gently transferred from the floor into the treatment position and raised to a standing working height for technicians, dramatically improving workflow, safety, and patient handling.
Four of these stations were installed as part of a comprehensive refurbishment of the hospital’s surgical and laboratory facilities. The result was a clean, efficient, and future-ready environment that redefined veterinary care standards and demonstrated how industrial-grade design thinking can transform even the most specialized workplaces.
