Webber Academy

Set within the renowned Webber Academy campus in Calgary, Alberta, the new Science Centre embodies the school’s commitment to academic excellence and innovation. Following the completion of a purpose-built Performing Arts Centre, the school sought to transform its former drama floor into a state-of-the-art science hub that would inspire the next generation of researchers and thinkers.
Working alongside KLR Design Group and Trevisan Labs, Kitspace led the interior design and systems integration for a new multidisciplinary science facility — comprising five flexible classrooms, a dedicated technician’s prep lab, and adjoining staff and student collaboration zones.
At the heart of the design is adaptability. Kitspace implemented a demountable wall system and custom elliptical lab workstations that rotate around discreet, floor-anchored M&E couplings. This configuration allows teachers to instantly shift between forward-facing instruction and circular group collaboration, fostering active, student-led learning.
The school’s lab technician — described by staff as the department’s most valuable asset — was placed at the centre of the design. A transparent “command centre” prep lab now connects directly to the main teaching spaces, allowing constant visibility, communication, and curiosity-driven engagement.
Every surface, from back-painted glass system walls to stainless steel Modulkit casework, is designed for durability, flexibility, and use as a teaching tool. Movable prep carts and standardized safety stations in each room ensure function, safety, and efficiency without compromise.
The result is a highly adaptable, technology-ready environment that mirrors the principles of modern scientific inquiry — flexible, open, and continuously evolving.
